North Carolina Baptist Aging Ministy (NCBAM) is introducing a new pilot program in the West Chowan and Chowan Baptist Association area starting January 2017. This new ministry will help our aging adults costly hospital and emergency room visits with a HOMEMEDS Medication Safety Program. This evidence based, in home medication review and intervention will aid aging adults by identifying medication related problems that could endanger their health, leaving them at risk for falls, dizziness, cardiac symptoms and other side effects.
NCBAM is seeking those who are willing to be a part of this ministry by volunteering to go into the aging adult community (starting with the churches) and assessing their medications. The collected list of medications would be handed over to a data input coordinator who would send the information to a HOMEMEDS pharmacist for review of potential problems or contradictions. Any concerns or life threatening issues would be reported back to the medication screener to notify the aging adult. This could be a life saving ministry.
The volunteers will attend a one-day training session. Volunteers do not have to be part of the medical field to help with this program. All funding will be paid for by NCBAM. If this program is successful, it will be implemented statewide.
This ministry will not only be of great assistance to our aging adults, but it will also be an opportunity to create relationships. If you or someone in your church is interested in helping to launch this new ministry, contact:
